Program Overview

This structured After School program for six to thirteen year olds introduces members to a variety of activities and programs that promote physical, creative, educational and social development through play. This program operates from the first day of school in September through to the last day of school in June.

Children and youth are divided into groups by age and participate in a daily rotation of planned activities that starts with a nutritious snack followed by homework and quiet games time, gym, arts and crafts, games and computers. Participants also have the opportunity to choose to participate in various activities including Leadership, Dance, Public Speaking and Chess.

Specialized Programs

Homework Club
Facilitated out of the T.P Loblaw Unit, this literacy program is designed to assist members with homework strategies through different learning techniques.

Art Club
Through use of different mediums (including painting, drawing, sculpting, ceramics, paper mache, cutting and pasting, origami), use of imagination, experimenting with ideas and tools, this program allows the participants to let their creative side free. Participants are encouraged to expand their awareness of other cultures, traditions and celebrations.

Cooking Club
Participants are introduced to kitchen safety and basic cooking skills. Open-mindedness is encouraged through new foods and a multicultural focus. Members learn how to work together in positive and productive manner. The program incorporates all aspects of eating from planning, budgeting, shopping, preparation, table settings, hygiene, manners, customs through to clean up.

Computers
This program introduces participants to the basics of computers, internet safety and introduction to a variety of software applications. Participants have the opportunity to complete homework assignments, conduct research and engage in open play in a structured and supervised lab.

Chess Club
To provide a safe and quiet atmosphere that will allow members to learn a "relaxed" approach to competition and to learn basic chess play. We offer a structured Chess program with tournaments and ladders.

Fred Fielder Public Speaking Program
Develop confidence, practice speaking in front of a small group, learn how to write and develop a speech. This program is constructed around structured program, guest speakers and competitions, also providing cash awards.

Leadership
Leadership is a registered program that helps to develop values of our Club, community and personal self-esteem. Through a variety of activities ie. journals, guest speakers, volunteerism within and outside of the Club, members gain an understanding of their place in the Club and community and their impact on the world around them.
